Homework

Home Reading

Our school wide home reading has now started. Your child received an orange log sheet to fill out for a chance to win "Pizza with the Principal". Please take time to read with your child each night.

Word Work

Each week we will focus on 5 high frequency words that we would like all children to master.  We will introduce our words on Monday and practice them daily.  Every Monday, your child will bring home his/her scribbler.  We would encourage you to take 5-10 minutes of time per night to review these words.  We are including a set of activities that might inspire you and your child (glued onto the inside of the front cover of the Word Work Scribbler), as we hope this can be made into a fun activity at home.  Please do not feel limited to these ideas.  We encourage you to find interesting and engaging ways to practice these words together.  Please send your child’s Word Work scribbler back to school on Friday morning.

Suggested activities for word work:

  1. Rainbow words – write each word with a different color

  2. Word search – look for words in newspapers or magazines -cut and glue them into your book.

  3. Write each word 4 times.

  4. Write a word that rhymes with each word.

  5. Cut out letters or use letter stickers for each of the words and glue them into your book

  6. Tic Tac Toe (instead of using X and O – use word wall words)

  7. Play matching games by making flashcards (like memory)

  8. Write the words and trace the vowels in red.

  9. Write the words in alphabetical order.

  10. Write each word in a basic sentence. (Example: I like cats)
